Mold And Your Health

The EPA estimates that most of us spend 90% of our time indoors, but we’re unaware of the health hazards created by indoor air pollutants in our homes or offices. Mold is a very common and dangerous indoor air hazard, especially in the Mid-Atlantic area. Contact Mid-Atlantic Mold & Restoration today for professional assistance.

Can Mold Really Cause Health Problems?

No question! Mold’s adverse health effects should not be underestimated. Throughout this site, we provide links to a myriad of government agencies and health organizations that warn of the hazards of mold exposure. Mold can cause health problems ranging from allergies to pulmonary aspergillosis, from skin rashes to life-threatening conditions from toxins. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, “infants are particularly susceptible to the effects of inhaled mycotoxins because their lungs are growing very rapidly.”

We do not mean to be alarmists, as most (about 85% according to the AMA) healthy, full-grown individuals are not allergic to mold; however, the elderly, young children, people with suppressed immune systems (either from medical conditions or medications), and heart and cancer patients are highly vulnerable to mold infections.

Of course, we are not physicians, and any information here is readily available in more details on the websites of the agencies linked on this page.

Black Mold

Some molds emit poisonous volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) called mycotoxins, which have been linked to severe respiratory conditions. In the Mid-Atlantic, "Stachybotrys Chartarum" is the most common toxic mold and typically colonizes areas that have been continuously wet or damp for more than one week. Is it rare? Unfortunately, no. We remediate this mold very frequently.

Much of what you’ve read in the press in recent years has been about what they call the “Black Mold,” which they say will make homes permanently uninhabitable. We do not subscribe to this hysteria as we have yet to come across a mold problem that we couldn’t handle.

Although, if you suspect that you may have a black or toxic mold problem, you should call a mold professional immediately. It may be necessary for you and your family to vacate the house temporarily.

At Mid-Atlantic Mold, we prioritize mold infestations such as "toxic mold," and we do our best to remediate the mold within 24 hours.

Mold And Your Pets

Pets are often even more susceptible to the health problems of mold exposure than we are.
